A driver's official driving history pulled from the state DMV — required at hire and annually thereafter.
A Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) is the official driving history report from a state DMV. FMCSA requires carriers to obtain an MVR at hire (49 CFR 391.21) and annually thereafter (49 CFR 391.25) for every CDL driver.
The MVR shows license status, suspensions, accidents, traffic violations, and CDL endorsements. Carriers review it for any disqualifying conditions or trends.
Continuous MVR monitoring (real-time alerts on new violations) is increasingly standard — it lets a carrier know about a driver's DUI or major violation the day it hits, instead of at the next annual review.
